THE HESPERIAN BOULEVARD CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Stretching from I-880 to A Street , the Hesperian Boulevard Corridor Improvement Project of San Lorenzo will completely revitalize the area – bringing a more efficient and welcoming appearance for pedestrians , bicyclists , vehicles , and local businesses . The project includes intersection enhancements , public transportation improvements , and a cycling lane . Landscaping on the project consists of adding street trees for the widened sidewalks , as well as landscaping for median islands .
The project is comprised of two stages : Stage 1 , Embers Way to Via Mercado , and Stage 2 , Via Mercado to West A Street . The project has been able to avoid any pandemic-related delays , allowing both stages to get successfully underway . In order to keep the project moving on schedule , James Lai , Construction Inspector
for Alameda County ’ s Public Works Agency ( ACPWA ) affirms that “ all necessary safety protocols were implemented and remain in effect .”
Aspects of the project that have already been completed or will soon be completed include eastern area concrete flatwork for sidewalks , driveways , and curb ramps . All newly constructed driveways for the project are ADA compliant . On the west side , concrete flatwork is about 70 % complete . In the central project area , landscaping has begun in various planting areas , including the median islands .
Paving and traffic signals are two significant tasks pending for Stage 2 . Paving will commence in May 2022 and is expected to take one-and-ahalf to two months . The projected due date for
