On Permanent Display
The framed photographs were hung for permanent display in the central commons at the law school in August 2020 . Due to COVID-19 restrictions , it was done without the ceremony that was planned to be held during the 2020 UND Homecoming week .
“ We wanted to give this project and the photographs a lot of visibility and decided this area would be a great spot for it ,” says Carolin , noting it is hoped an alumni gathering will be held in the central commons during the law school ’ s 2021 Homecoming events to showcase the project ’ s photographs . new photos that capture the beauty of these historic legal landmarks within the state .”
“ We understand the pieces within the Class of 2017 ’ s Courthouse Photography Project will become part of UND ’ s permanent art collection ,” he continues . “ In this way , they are expected to withstand the test of time as they proudly display a part of North Dakota ’ s legal heritage and history .”
Carolin says the project also shows how committed students are to making the law school better . “ They wanted to leave their mark on the school , and it is great to know the school made a difference for them . The project ties together education , the future , alumni , and the state of North Dakota .”
The Courthouse Photography Project also provides a unique perspective of rural courthouses across the state . “ There are a couple of the photographs that were captured with drones and they provide a cool look at the top of the courthouses and the rural nature of where they are located ,” notes Carolin . “ There are different angles to the photographs that capture the architecture and highlight the courthouse building ’ s features .”
A Lasting Legacy
Pelton says he is proud to be part of the Courthouse Photography Project and the lasting impact it will have on the law school . “ A courthouse is a symbol of justice and one we believed would help inspire future law students to strive for greatness in their profession ,” he says . “ The project is also versatile because there is great potential to expand the collection even further by adding
