YOUNG LAWYER SHOWCASE The YLS Community Service Committee hosted the Fifth Annual Feed Your Community Food and Fund Drive the week of April 9. YLS partnered with the Great Plains Food Bank to help feed those in need in our local communities. YLS continues to host luncheons and happy hours across the state for great social networking opportunities. In addition, the YLS Education and Professionalism Committee continues to host webinars featuring various legal topics. Young lawyers, as well as other licensed attorneys, are encouraged to participate in these educational opportunities to earn continuing legal education credits. JESSICA JENSEN MICHAEL P. SLY Jessica Jensen is an associate attorney with Galstad, Jensen & McCann, PA, in East Grand Forks, Minn. She currently practices family law and immigration law, representing clients in North Dakota, Minnesota, and the Federal District of North Dakota. Michael P. Sly joined Ohnstad Twichell, P.C. as an associate attorney in July 2017. Sly practices primarily in the areas of public finance and public- private partnerships. Sly’s practice often involves matters of municipal law, water law, and real estate/land use. Recently, he became a founding attorney of the bankruptcy/ restructuring group, which mainly represents debtors in North Dakota and Minnesota. Sly is licensed in North Dakota, Minnesota, and New York (pending). Jensen grew up in Winnipeg, Man. She received a bachelor of arts in criminal justice from the University of Winnipeg and chose to pursue her career in law after spending some time traveling abroad in Europe. She graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law in December 2014. During her time in law school, Jensen was the co-founder and secretary/treasurer for the Canadian Law Student Society as well as the secretary/treasurer for the Van Sickle Senate of Delta Theta Phi. Jensen received the Lillian Elsinga Outstanding Student Leader Award in 2014 for her roles. She is the 2018 president-elect for the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association and also sits on the Northeast Central Judicial Planning Committee and the Northeast Central Local Rules of Court Committee. Jensen also serves as the secretary/treasurer for the Family Law Section of SBAND and is a member of the Young Lawyers Section and the Canadian American Bar Association. Jensen currently resides in Grand Forks with her husband Matt and her dog, Ray. She and her husband are expecting their first child in July. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and visiting Winnipeg. 26 THE GAVEL Sly is a Fargo native and graduated from Concordia College with a bachelor of arts cum laude in German and political science and the University of St. Thomas School of Law with a juris doctor cum laude. He lived in Germany for two years where he worked as a translator for Prof. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf and earned a master’s degree from the University of Wuerzburg (L.L.M. Eur.). Sl
