A case of mistaken
identity: Jake’s story
Jake the Lurcher arrived at RSPCA Bristol
Dogs & Cats Home in a pitiful state. Not
only was he painfully thin, but his fur was
so matted that the knots pulled at his skin
when he walked, causing him to cry out.
Despite all this and being an elderly dog of
15 years he still had a lot of life left in him
and a big personality.
Here at West Hatch we often take dogs
from Bristol when they are really pushed for
space. Jake was one of the dogs they chose
to come down to our Centre and we quickly
put him up for rehoming.
One day we received a phone call from
a lady called Veronica who had lost her
Jake on arrival
Lurcher Murphy 4 years previously whilst
out on a walk. She had never given up
on the search for him and thought he
had been found when she saw Jake’s
photo on our Facebook page. The dogs
were almost identical – but Jake had a
different microchip number. Despite this
disappointment, Veronica could not stop
thinking about Jake, so arranged to come for
a visit and set her mind at rest. Jake was not
Murphy. But Veronica did however fall in
love with him instantly and offered to give
