Now, here is how that dating advice is like searching for a new job:

1. You have big career aspirations. Great! However, if you were a fork truck driver and haven’ t completed any secondary education it is unlikely you are going to be the company’ s CEO next week. Identify what you want to do and then go get the education and experience you need to accomplish your career goals.
2. Networking is critical. Networking is not begging your friends for jobs. Networking is participating in appropriate real world and online groups of like-minded business people and job seekers and helping THEM meet their goals. Only through helping others does help come your way!
3. Take occasional time off from job hunting. In fact being involved in other activities gives you much more to talk about when meeting new people, including hiring managers.
4. Enjoy your job hunting experience. This is when you get to meet many new companies, many of which are all wrong for you, but several of which will be just right for you! Enjoy the process and choose your next job wisely!
5. Don’ t be overly eager to please a hiring manager. You’ re setting the wrong precedent by dropping everything else to accommodate their schedule. TQR
