Spreading the Gospel? Remember to Be Healthy! Dec. 2013 | Page 4

we were chosen to be out of the world. (John 15:19)

Being spiritually healthy can also affect our emotions. “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” (1 John 4:7-9) Love is an emotion. If we have a relationship with God and consistently feed ourselves with Scripture, then we will know God’s ineffable love for us. God showed his love toward us by sending Jesus to die for us, so we should love God and love one another in return. If we are spiritually healthy, we will always be joyful because we have all we need—God. We might want more earthly treasures, but God is enough for us. When we read the Bible, we will realize that all we ever want is in God. Sadness can come after we do not get what we want, but do not let your sadness overwhelm you. Your emotions are not bigger than what God can handle. If we are spiritually healthy, we will be socially healthy as well because we will know that we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). We are also called to love our enemies even though that may be hard sometimes, so being spiritually healthy can help us develop godly characteristics to love our enemies. Also as we draw closer to God, we will draw closer to our fellow brothers and sisters of Christ.

That is why it is important to be healthy. Even though God does not directly say that He wants us to be healthy, there are many Scriptures that can relate to having a healthy lifestyle in all areas of our lives: spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and environmentally.
