The Nottingham Mechanics
About to Retire? At a Loose End?
We hear so much these days about the
over 50s being lonely or bored, and yet
there is a Centre in Nottingham
where these two words are never
heard.
The Nottingham Mechanics,
in the centre of town, is truly a
place where anyone can relax
and meet people of any age
- but particularly in the older
age groups - from Monday to
Saturday at any time of the day
or evening.
Special interest groups meet
there (e.g. family history, keep fit,
music, writing, bridge, whist, and
much more...) or if you’d rather
just chill out, or chat with friends,
there is a licensed restaurant, a
library, and regular weekly talks
and film shows for members.
Another big attraction is the
opportunity to go on one (or more) of the
holidays and days out organised by the
manager, Robert. These wonderful trips by
coach go anywhere in the UK or abroad
and are meticulously planned by Robert,
who ensures that people get the
most from wherever they go.
Later on, members enjoy slide
shows of their experiences from
the photos which Robert has
taken, including breath-taking
scenery and informal shots of
members enjoying themselves
- which is, after all, what it’s all
about.
To be a member, the annual
subscription is £36 (the
equivalent of just £3 a month)
- and the cost of trips is
reasonable, too.
