Spotlight Magazine Summer Reading Challenge Record Breakers Summer Reading Challenge 2015 At all libraries in Derby Starts Saturday 11 July and finishes Saturday 12 September 2015 For children aged 4 to 12 years This year’s challenge is called Record Breakers and brings together fact and fiction, challenging young readers to explore some astonishing real-life achievements and world records. The scheme encourages children to read during the long summer break when their reading skills can decline without the regular reading activity at school. Research shows that reading for pleasure is one of the most important contributory factors in children’s learning success. The combination of creativity, fun activities and reading choice can have a real impact on children’s reading ability, range and motivation, boosting their confidence and leading to a more positive attitude towards learning There are three linked events taking place during the summer holidays at Sinfin Library as follows: Monday 3 August 11am to 12noon Jack & the Beanstalk puppet show Thursday 13 August11am to 12noon Animal Magic animal handling and Children’s book advice for parents and carers Tuesday 25 August1.30 to 2.30pm ‘History of You’ family tree craft workshop Events are bookable and children have to be signed up to the Summer Reading Challenge to attend.
