FLOTATION TECHNOLOGY
The facility is designed to bridge the gap between laboratory-scale trials and fullscale operations. By enabling metallurgical tests under realistic conditions, it helps clients evaluate and de-risk new flotation technologies before committing to largescale investment. This is particularly relevant in Brazil, where mining companies are increasingly seeking solutions that combine improved recovery performance with reduced energy and water consumption.
The inauguration attracted significant interest in the Brazilian mining press, reflecting the industry’ s recognition of the pilot plant’ s strategic value. Beyond supporting the landmark order, the new facility reinforces TAKRAF Group’ s long-term commitment to the region by providing local customers with easier access to technical expertise and tailored solutions.
Looking ahead, TAKRAF Group sees the Ouro Preto pilot plant as both a testing ground and a catalyst for wider adoption of the DELKOR BQR flotation technology across Latin and South America.
BGRIMM’ s scale up record plus fines strategy
China’ s BGRIMM says the scale-up of flotation machines can not only improve economic efficiency and production efficiency, but also optimise hydrodynamic characteristics, meet large-scale mining

DELKOR BQR Flotation Cells with proprietary MAXGen™ mechanism recently achieved a decisive breakthrough in the Brazilian mining market
demands, and simplify operation and maintenance. In the abstract for a paper to be given at Flotation 2025 it states:“ However, with the continuous development of flotation machine scale-up, traditional scaling methods can hardly support the design requirements of super-large flotation machines. This study developed the world’ s largest flotation machine( single-tank volume reaching 800 m ³) based on an innovative five-zone flotation dynamics framework, which optimised bubble loading capacity while maintaining hydrodynamic similarity, and improved froth transport and recovery efficiency. Installed at the Pulang Copper Mine located at 3,500 m altitude for copper recovery from tailings, application results showed that the 800 m ³ flotation machine achieved a single-machine recovery rate of 11.74 %, concentration ratio exceeding 20, and increased the overall system recovery rate by 1.12 percentage points. The development and application of the 800m ³ flotation machine has not only achieved unprecedented technological breakthroughs, but also played significant roles in economic benefits
International Mining | OCTOBER 2025 and environmental protection, driving the advancement of the entire industry.”
Another paper from BGRIMM discusses how increasing the initial kinetic energy and reducing bubble size are critical to enhancing the bubble-particle collision of fine particles. Reducing turbulence intensity in the transport and separation zones is important for the recovery of bubble-particle aggregates.“ Based on conventional mechanical flotation cells, BGRIMM optimised the rotor, stator and tank structure through simulation and experimental approaches, which established a high-shear, high-turbulence mixing zone alongside a low-turbulence separation zone within the tank, achieving: Micro-non bubble generation, increasing initial kinetic energy for fine particle and Efficient transport and separation of bubble-particles aggregates. The laboratory studies and engineering validation showed a good benefits on fine ilmenite recovery, with the new flotation cell, we build up an industrial demonstration line. This advancement promotes the green and efficient exploitation of fine particle mineral resources”.
Syensqo’ s latest innovations in base metal and industrial minerals processing
Syensqo told IM that it continues to advance mineral processing with new flotation technologies designed for today’ s complex ores. In 2023, Syensqo introduced its Transfoamer TM line of switchable frothers. The strength of these reagents transforms throughout the circuit in response to pH changes- starting as a strong frother in the rougher stage and becoming a weaker frother in the cleaner stage. This switch in properties aligns with the desired froth strength at each stage, which helps operators to manage the froth more effectively, improving circuit stability,
