Guinea. In 2018/19 CEB built 16 underground
buckets and refurbished others, all fitted with
Keech’s Wearpact™ lip assemblies. Fosterville
Gold Mine in Victoria is second on the world
rankings of lowest cost gold producers. It
engaged CEB to replace a competitor lip base
with a new Keech Wearpact™ 10° lip base on its
Cat R2900 bucket with good results.
CEB also builds trays fitted with various Keech
GET components for added wear protection,
including 26 MT65 truck trays for Epiroc Australia
and three MT65 underground truck trays for BHP

ESCO’s Nemisys ® N70 for wheel
loaders
With over 4,000 digging hours of testing and
validation, ESCO’s (now part of Weir Group) new
Nemisys N70 mining lip system for wheel loaders
it says has provided distinct advantages for
mining operations. “Currently installed on over
500 machines worldwide, the Nemisys system is
field-proven for unsurpassed reliability and
performance. Superior point retention and
improved system life keeps machines operating
and required maintenance to a minimum.”
The N70 system features fully hammerless
locking mechanisms for the points, shrouds and
adapters. The adapters, also available in weld-on
versions, are a low-profile configuration with
wear caps for maximum service life. All new point
shapes were developed specifically for mining
class wheel loaders in a range of applications.
As the Nemisys N70 lip system continues to
log hours on machines around the world, success
stories on the system’s performance are
forwarded to ESCO’s main office. It cited to IM
the following examples of the achievements the
N70 system has attained.
In a South Africa platinum mine on a huge
Komatsu Mining L-2350 wheel loader, following a
successful field trial in the extreme duty, hard
rock application, the mine site chose to upgrade
to the N70 system. In addition, they placed an
order for an additional loader bucket with the
N70 system. The results have been fewer and
faster tooth replacements due to increased
reliability and service life. The optional N70
mechanical adapters have eliminated hot work;
and reduced machine downtime by providing
simplified replacement.
Moving to the taconite iron ore mines of
Minnesota, USA, the system has been installed
on a Cat 994 and Komatsu Mining L-2350.
“Impressed by the safety and productivity
improvements experienced during the field trials,
the mine chose to upgrade their entire wheel
loader fleet to the N70 system. Reduced tooth
replacement, coupled with improved digging in
tough hard rock, significantly improved machine
performance and the virtual elimination of
unplanned downtime proved to be too good to
refuse. During the trial, the mine reported that
the N70 teeth lasted up to four times longer than
a competitor’s system previously used while
maintaining improved sharpness.”
In Western Australia, in an iron ore mine on a
Cat 994, according to the operator, in extremely
abrasive rock, the N70 teeth are outlasting the
previous competitor system by approximately
25% – allowing the loader to continue operating
through the scheduled service interval before
replacing the teeth. The reliability of the N70
system has eliminated the need to add plate to
the adapters or tack weld the locks to prevent
point loss. N70 mechanical adapters have
eliminated hot work and reduced replacement
time to a couple of hours, compared to several
days with the competitor’s weld-on adapters. The
maintenance crew also praised the speed and
ease of both point and shroud replacement since
upgrading to the Nemisys system.
Finally in Nevada, USA, to a gold mine and
installation on a Cat 994 and Komatsu WA1200.
In this high impact, medium abrasion conditions,
the crew requested that their entire wheel loader
fleet be upgraded to the Nemisys N70 lip system
following the success of the trials. The mine
noted N70 teeth delivered flawless reliability
with a truly hammerless locking system. The
crew also noted that the Nemisys shrouds are
much easier to replace and have proven more
reliable in the field.
