“ Screening efficiency has improved , allowing the operators to ‘ manage ’ the screen panel apertures to achieve higher recoveries throughout the overall comminution circuit , resulting in more ‘ sized ’ material reporting correctly to the ball mills . The STM-SCREEN™ will allow mill operators to increase throughput as soon as the downstream processes are expanded with the installation of BM # 3 .”
GK concludes : “ Both immediate and longterm average capacity goals have been exceeded , and the screening quality has improved due to the longer retention time of material on the screen deck . General Kinematics ’ STM-SCREEN™ retains material for approximately 26-33 seconds versus a typical brute force screen that retains material for approximately 6-8 seconds . The longer retention time allows for an optimised material separation as fines have more time to drop out . Equally as important is the ability of the STM-SCREEN™ to process at a higher bed depth without sacrificing throughput . The material spreads out evenly at the feed end , even at higher bed depths . The increased retention time of the evenly spread material allows for increased screening efficiency at the required capacities .”
Metso Outotec to provide ‘ unique ’ sustainable screening tech to iron ore project
Metso Outotec says it will supply unique sustainable screening technology for an iron ore project in the Southern Hemisphere . The order for the product screening and scalping application covers 12 Metso Outotec BSE Series™ ( Banana Screen Elliptical ) tandem screens and 4 MF Series™ screens , all equipped with 305PS screening media . In addition , the contract covers Metrics monitoring system for screens , expert support and installation services , the company says . Metso Outotec explained : “ The need to reduce water in iron ore production and other minerals processing is a critical global challenge . The innovative and patented BSE Series screens enable iron ore processing even with higher natural moisture content without adding water .”
The order value , which is not disclosed , has been booked in Minerals segment ’ s September 2021 quarter orders received . The start-up of the project is scheduled for the first half of 2024 .

The elimination of process water ultimately results in lower processing costs , increasing the customer ’ s competitiveness and profitability in the iron ore global markets .” Results the customer can expect after implementation , according to Metso Outotec , include : n BSE Series screens , which are part of the company ’ s Planet Positive solution , enable elimination of process water in the screening process ; n A 93 % reduction of the plant ’ s overall water consumption , elimination of the need for tailing dams ; n Reduced energy consumption from the entire plant compared with the wet screening process : 18,000 MWh / y electricity saving ; n 30 % increase in screening capacity compared with traditional screening ; n Increased safety during media change-outs using the Hammerless Attachment system ; and n Reduced capital expenditure due to the adoption of high-performing BSE screens .
IFE continues long term relationship with LKAB
In LKAB ’ s ore facilities , a number of heavy duty vibrating feeders from IFE Aufbereitungstechnik GmbH are used . The first electromagnetic feeders with stepless capacity control as discharge units of bunkers were supplied in 1975 and they are still in use . “ High quality machinery , professional operation and first class maintenance are leading to lowest operating costs and highest availability over decades . Electromagnetic feeders are part of IFE ' s core product range since the beginning of the company ’ s history . What makes them stand out is the fact that they are operating without any additional lubrication of the drive unit . LKAB ' s range of IFE machines was later supplemented by numerous large heavy duty screens and heavy duty feeders with unbalanced exciters . Examples range from a 3,000 mm wide heavy duty feeder nourishing LKAB ’ s primary crusher with bulk magnetite ore ( 0-1,000 mm ) to heavy duty feeders transporting the crushed ore to elevators . 50 mm thick wear plates and machine weights up to about 27,500 kg fulfill the demands of long maintenance intervals and highest operation availability .
“ The screening of material is the basis for high quality end products and leads to a highly stable process flow and optimal preparation of the material for downstream equipment . In the ore sorting facilities of Kiruna , single and double deck vibrating screens with unbalance exciters have been in use since 1995 . Additionally , in 1998 , IFE delivered six harbour screens for the final screening of LKAB ’ s high quality iron ore pellets in Narvik . These huge double deck screens with a total screening area of 52.5 m ² per screen provide a final screening area of 315 m ² before the ships are loaded with thousands of tonnes of this material per hour .”
