TNT nears completion of Centinela project
Terra Nova Technologies( TNT) told IM that it continues to strengthen its position as an innovative supplier of crushing, conveying, and material handling systems for the mining industry. While the company has become well known for advancing modular steel primary gyratory crusher stations- designed to reduce construction risk and accelerate site installation, its growing portfolio of high performance overland conveying systems is increasingly defining major project outcomes.
At Antofagasta Minerals’ Nueva Centinela project, TNT is delivering a fully integrated crush and convey solution.
With Early Contractor Involvement( ECI) awarded in early 2024 to TNT and its joint venture construction partner, Ingenieria y Construcción Sigdo Koppers SA, the project is on schedule to be commissioned later this year.
The project includes the modular primary gyratory crusher station, developed jointly with AMSA’ s operations and maintenance teams, but the heart of the material handling scope is the overland conveyor and stacker system that transfers ore from the primary station to downstream processing. The main overland conveyor is a 1,524 mm wide ST 3150 belt stretching 6.117 km, operating at a 6.0 m / s belt speed and powered by 2 x 2,250 kW VFD controlled drives.
This high capacity system it says underpins the project’ s 95,000 t / d design throughput, providing the efficiency, controllability, and availability required for long distance haulage in a brownfield expansion environment. TNT incorporated several maintainability and safety enhancements across the conveyor and stacker arrangement, including a stacker head pulley removal system, fully integrated fire suppression and dust suppression systems, and a permanent belt-splice station with a powered winder to streamline maintenance and minimise downtime.
These features, combined with the project’ s high degree of modularisation, have contributed to strong construction performance and more than 1.5 million LTI free hours to date. Building on the success of the Spence SGO overland system- also rated at 95,000 t / d and in successful operation since 2020- the Centinela development TNT says demonstrates its ability to execute large scale conveyor projects through EPC delivery, logistical optimisation, and disciplined modular design.“ Together, the modular crusher station and long distance conveyor system highlight TNT’ s continued commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and reliable material handling solutions for large copper operations.”
Amman gears up for expansion with new overland conveyor
At Amman’ s Batu Hijau copper-gold operation on Sumbawa Island, Indonesia, a new 5 km overland conveyor system is currently in the advanced stage of construction that will support the operation’ s planned expansion. The new conveyor has a capacity of about 14,000 t / h with the trestles, bents and ground modules fabricated by FLS( former TK Mining) via a third party engineering group in China. Innomotics is supplying gearless drive units for the OLC.
The expansion project is part of is a major long term initiative to increase processing capacity at the mine from the existing
