through Pittman-Robertson allocations . To protect that funding and multiple constitutional freedoms , we were the first to alert the industry to the threat and later led a coalition of hunting and shooting groups in filing a lawsuit to stop this madness .
GOING TO THE SUPREME COURT : We filed an amicus brief in support of the state of Alaska ’ s petition asking the U . S . Supreme Court to review a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision that federal agencies have carte blanche authority to regulate hunting on federal lands in Alaska . This case originated as a management dispute on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in 2015 , and is but one of several cases where we have engaged in litigation to protect hunters and state officials from overbearing federal agencies .
PROTECTING MANAGEMENT OF PRESERVES : Our lawsuit defending the State of Alaska ’ s predator management authority on National Preserves continued in 2022 , with the case currently on appeal to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals . At trial , we secured protection of the Trump-era rule deferring authority on method , manner and take to the state . On appeal , we will continue to defend the state ’ s authority to manage wildlife within its borders . The case remains in limbo while the Kenai decision , discussed above , is reviewed for potential appeal to the U . S . Supreme Court .
SUING FOR A SAY IN CONTE : When the Fish and Wildlife Service finalized new regulations governing hunting on Conte National Wildlife Refuge , without giving public notice or taking comment , it included major reductions in the bear hound-training season and the elimination of nearly all hunting with dogs on the Putney Mountain Unit of the refuge . That clear violation of process was too much to ignore , and with our local partners we filed suit against the agency seeking to restore hunting opportunities within the refuge .
