The listing status of gray wolves continues to be a top target of anti-hunting groups . Recently , they petitioned the Fish and Wildlife Service to list Northern Rocky Mountain wolves as “ threatened ,” and to relist all Western wolves as “ endangered .” An emergency relisting was denied by the service , but they subsequently published a notice that putting wolves in Montana , Idaho and the other Western states on the list of endangered or threatened species “ may be warranted .”
