By submitting petitions to government agencies , powerful animal-rights organizations can circumvent legislative discussion and political roadblocks to achieve their goals . We successfully fought state-level petitions by the Humane Society of the United States to end trapping in Colorado and a citizen ’ s petition to end hound hunting in Nevada . However , far more dangerous petitions were filed at the federal level that would decimate all hunting , and we sounded the alarm and organized partners to pushback on these frivolous attempts to hijack wildlife management .
