CONTESTS

H unting contests were a major target for anti-hunters in 2019-20 when they pushed legislation and commission-level changes in a dozen states nationwide – which included felony penalties ! In 2021 , they slowed their attacks but focused on “ friendly ” states such as New York and New Jersey . In addition to ending coordinated hunts that provide any incentives for killing invasive coyotes , any hunting of species with a prize – such as a hunt club ’ s big buck contest , youth squirrel hunts or field trials – would become illegal . Fortunately , none of these bills passed , but they remain alive in 2022 . Our team will continue to fight these attempts to gain a foothold in wildlife management .
