2017 CANADA SUMMER GAMES BOARD ANNOUNCED

In case you weren’ t aware, the 2017 Canada Summer Games are heading to Winnipeg. The Host Society recently announced its board for the Games, which will be held from July 28 to August 13, 2017. Having the Games in Winnipeg is quite an honour, considering that the 2017 event will celebrate the 50th birthday of the Canada Games in the same year that the Canada celebrates the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The first Canada Games took place in Quebec City in 1967.
Here is the Host Society Board of Directors:

Co-Chair, CEO, World Trade Centre Winnipeg
Hubert Mesman
Co-Chair, Former President, Travel Manitoba
Helga Van Iderstine Lawyer, Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson LLP
Kevin Regan

Jim Ludlow

Meanwhile, through an arrangement with Sport Manitoba, President and CEO, Jeff Hnatiuk, will serve as CEO of the Host Society.
The most significant capital legacy project for the 2017 Canada Games is the new 124,000-square foot training centre at Sport Manitoba’ s home on Pacific Avenue. The training centre, now under construction, will feature multipurpose areas including three fully convertible court spaces, strength and conditioning areas, aerobic training space, plyometric training and testing and an indoor training track.
The Canada Games are Canada’ s largest multi‐sport Games. Held once every two years, alternating between winter and summer Games, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition for up and coming Provincial and Territorial athletes. The Games have been hosted in every province at least once since their inception in Quebec City during Canada’ s Centennial in 1967. The Games are proud of their contribution to Canada’ s sport development system in addition to their lasting legacy of sport facilities, community pride and national unity.

MANITOBA BLIZZARD WIN FIRST RMLL TITLE

To a man, the Manitoba Blizzard believed that their 2016 playoff run was believed to be“ Unfinished Business.” Last month, the Blizzard finished their business by winning the 2016 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League championship with an 8-6 win over the Calgary Chill at Stu Peppard Arena in Calgary. Blaze Bezecki led the Blizzard with two goals. The Blizzard outshot Calgary 48-37. Blizzard“ This was a big day for Manitoba Lacrosse,” said head coach Trevor Anyon.“ Everyone should be proud of the work that these young men put in.”
