you think you can handle it, do
what you need to do to make the
team, you’re as welcome as any of
the boys. It’s really seamless. It’s
no big deal. And this isn’t any kind
of social or political statement
on my part. It’s just our mandate:
“We provide opportunities for
student athletes to play high school
football.” Period. If you’re a high
school student at a school that has
a team in the Winnipeg High School
Football League, you’re eligible to
play.”
Females have played for awhile
in the WHSFL, but as you can see,
the list is growing. For players like
Milne, Maisey and Pirrie, it’s all
about the activity, the camaraderie
and the hitting. Yep, the hitting.
Maisey is just 14. She’s in Grade
9 and, by her own admission, weighs
“about 143 pounds.” She plays
