of Winnipeg finished 15th – the top Canadian – finished 15th in a time of one hour, 47 minutes and 50 seconds for the 1.5 km. swim, the 40 km. bike race and the 10 km. run.
Sarah Anne Brault of Winnipeg finished 42nd on the women’ s side in a time of 2:02:48.
And volleyball star Justin Duff, 28, of Winnipeg helped his team reach the quarterfinal where they lost 3-0 to Russia and were eliminated. Canada did beat the United States
Sophie Schmidt quarterfinal of the women’ s 1,500 metre race in a time of 4:08.53 and did not advance.
In cycling, Winnipeg’ s Leah Kirchmann finished 38th in the Road Race in a time of 4:01:29.
In gymnastics, Brandon’ s Isabela Onyshko finished 18th in the allaround and eighth in the balance beam. In the team event, Onyshko and her Canadian teammates finished ninth in the qualification portion of the event and did not advance to the final.

“ When I first joined the national team seven years ago or so, we were an OK team, internationally,” said Duff.“ The big teams didn’ t care if they played us. They were just like,‘ OK, chalk up a 3-0 win against Canada.’”
“ Since then, with what we’ ve done, we’ re now a feared team. Teams prepare for us.”
That can probably be said for all of Canada’ s Olympians and based on the performance of all nine Manitobans, we should be proud. •
