Dufferin Hockey

Back on March 16 at Pioneer Arena, the Dufferin Hockey Academy
completed its fourth successful year. Winnipeg Police Service and
Police Cadets have partnered with Dufferin Elementary School, Hugh
John MacDonald Junior High and the Freight House Community
Centre in a program designed to keep children engaged in a positive,
healthy atmosphere. The Dufferin Hockey Academy is aimed primarily
at aboriginal youth between the ages of 5 and 13. The program takes
place Wednesdays throughout the school year. About 75 kids take part
alongside the Winnipeg Police Service and community volunteers.
The Dufferin Hockey Academy helps inner-city students gain hockey
skills that equal those of other students who play hockey in the City of
Winnipeg. Our own James Carey Lauder caught some of the action. l
