From the Stroms, to the Hunts to the Russells, Sport is About Family eidre and Danae Russell are D accomplished Manitoba figure skaters and their mom, Margo, is their coach. The late Wilf and his wife Audrey Strom were swim coaches and executives who created a technique for competitive blind swimmers that is still a big part of the sport today. Michael and Frank Hunt are two old hockey playing brothers who fell in love with Roller Hockey and are bringing it back to Manitoba this spring. And Pal and Archie Chawla were not only brothers and fellow professionals on the badminton court, they’re also Hall of Famers, as well. For these four different families, sport is about dedication, innovation, passion and togetherness. It’s about setting goals, meeting them. It’s about creating something lasting. It’s about loving every minute of competition. That’s what this issue of SportsLife is about. It’s not just about your direct family and how all the people from your family have an impact on the athletic careers of other family members, but it’s about how sport makes it all seem like family – your teammates, your coaches, your fans, your fellow participants.
