who have been so sensational in 2015
Thornborough Leads Canada at Rugby Super Series
Brandon’s Amanda Thornborough had another
summer representing Canada at an international
rugby competition. In fact, Canada narrowly
lost to England 15-14 in the final game of the
Women’s Rugby Super Series (WRSS) at Ellerslie
Rugby Park in Edmonton, but it certainly wasn’t
for a lack of effort of from Thornborough. With
Canada trailing 10-6, six minutes into the second
half, Thornborough reached the line after
sustained Canadian pressure inside the England
22, giving the home side an 11-10 edge. Canada
couldn’t hold on despite a strong attack in the
final nine minutes, but Thornborough, who
played every game in the tournament, was one of
Canada’s top players.
Omwenga Wins 2015 Manitoba Marathon
Thomas Omwenga won his second
Manitoba Marathon. On a beautiful
Sunday morning in June on the streets
of Winnipeg, the 35-year-old Kenyan,
who has been living and training in
Hamilton, Ont., broke away from
the pack early and ran by himself
for most of the race, completing the
42.195-kilomtre course in a leisurely two
hours, 34 minutes and 17.8 seconds.
This year, there were more than
10,200 runners taking part in all of the
Marathon’s events – the full marathon,
half marathon, relay, 10-km run and
the 2.6-mile super run. Omwenga,
who also won the 2012 marathon,
beat Winnipeg’s Bradley Keefe who
completed the 37th Manitoba Marathon
in a time of 2:36.54. Les Friesen of
Steinbach was third in 2:48.25.
