From The
What a fall we have seen
when it comes to sports here
in Western New York. The
football playoffs are in full
swing, and so too is soccer
and the rest of the fall sports.
We have seen a nice resur-
gence when it comes to soc-
cer this year.
As of this writing, Bish-
op Timon was gunning for a
MMAA title when they faced
St. Mary’s this past Tuesday. It
has been a grind for the Tigers
to get back to where the soc-
cer team can compete with
the very best again. Keeper
Ryan Gall has been a big rea-
son for the recent Timon suc-
cess.
Hamburg High School
girls soccer was the darling
during the regular season.
They swept Williamsville
East during the regular sea-
son and only finished with
one loss. But, the playoffs are
a different animal and the top
seed was upset .
Speaking of Williamsville
East, both the boys and girls
teams just keep win-
ning. The boys
knocked off a very
strong Hamburg
team in the finals,
while the girls
had to go through
Grand Island to
book a place in the
next round.
As we dive into
this edition, we
dip our toe into the
world of track and
field. Anna Ryb-
czynski of West Sen-
eca West is one of
the most decorated
track and field stars to
come through WNY in
a very long time. She
had numerous offers,
but choose Wake For-
rest. As you will read in
our cover story, you will see
what makes Rybczynski tick,
and why she loves the sport.
Anna Miller had large shoes
to fill when taking over the
crease at Williamsville East.
She more than filled those
shoes in an epic 22 save per-
formance earlier this year
that put her on the map.
There are other great sto-
ries as we get ready for our
first All-Sports Union soccer
team at the end of Novem-
ber. Choosing the best 25
boys and 25 girls in WNY in
no easy task, and we are sure
that there will be some hurt
feelings.
We have made sure that
we got to as many games
as possible and have talked
to coaches as well as we get
ready to put this exciting is-
sues together.
