All real basketball fans love to watch a player that
plays with a lot of intensity and brings the energy
every time they step on the basketball court. Ivory
Latta is that player. She can be described as a feisty
guard for the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, a fierce
competitor, leader, and coach. Latta had a
tremendous season last year in the WNBA, she was
selected for the first time to represent the East in the
WNBA All Star game, and now that the WNBA
season is on break, we can catch her on the bench
of her alma mater educating the guards at UNC Tar
Heels.
Every fan of the UNC Tar Heels Women Basketball
team was excited when the news was announced
that she would be an assistant coach at the school
where she holds the school’s career 3-point and
free-throw percentage records.
Washington Mystics’ Guard, Ivory Latta, Makes Her 1st
WNBA All Star Game Appearance (2013).
Latta has been a great model for the current Tar
Heels ladies to work under and learn from. What example! In Latta, you have a current
professional player showing you what it takes to improve and possibly make it as a professional
women’s basketball player.
This article is titled, Ivory Latta: Has A “Latta” Things to Prove but hasn’t the McConnells, South
Carolina native already proven a lot?
While she could have remained in Washington, DC and worked extensively on improving her
game or secluded herself from all things basketball after the early elimination of the Mystics by
the Atlanta Dream in last year’s playoffs, instead she decided to use her energy to set herself up
for the future.
She has an inspiring backstory being a small town girl, father living with Parkinson’s Disease, to
now a professional basketball player and coach.
The only thing left to do now is to get her Mystic’s a championship before she permanently hang
up the sneakers for sideline heels. We are sure the ladies of the Minnesota Lynx will have a lot
to say about that!
