Conditioning
When considering conditioning training for basketball players, high intensity activity should always be chosen over long slow runs. This is because the long endurance training can transfer fast twitch muscle fibres over to slow twitch muscle fibres, this is bad for basketball players because fast twitch fibres are far more explosive in their characteristics when compared to slow twitch muscle fibres. High intensity interval training however, does not transfer fast twitch fibres over to the less advantageous slow twitch fibres, and along with this, it has been shown in research to be as effect and if not more effective at improving markers of cardiovascular conditioning, such as Vo2 Max.

Overall I hope this article shed some light on the demands of basketball and how they could be met in the most effective and efficient way, although there is no cookie cutter program that will work for every athlete, the guidelines I have covered in this article definitely cover the broad strokes of the strength and conditioning requirements of basketball players.
