Last Thoughts Nearly every time I open a sports media outlet I see that another Laker has taken it upon himself to say something completely idiotic -- regardless of whether it is taken in or out of context -- that doesn’t hold up to the image that the Lakers have created for themselves over the past 50 years. http://d1warraxuf7xh1.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/ Shaq-Kareem-Mikan.jpg The Lakers used to be a team everyone both loved and hated to play against -- loved because they wanted to prove to the rest of the league that they could beat the best, and hated because on any given night they had the chance of getting outright embarrassed. Now, the Lakers are a bunch of a baffling buffoons, Kobe himself included. We’re tired of hearing Jeremy Lin talk about how the Lakers are taking steps in the right direction after losses, Nick Young joking around with Kobe when he sits out, and Kobe talking about himself doing miraculous things even with a minute restriction. It’s time for the organization to build for the future because this team is not what the Lakers represent. Now is the time for the Lakers to once again begin building a team that takes pride in the uniform they wear and the organization they play for. Now is the time to begin letting Kobe loose in order to recruit free agents for next year. Now is time to once again pay “fans” to sit around Staples Center courtside wearing Kevin Durant Lakers’ jerseys. Now is the time to continue letting Byron Scott coach normally (because he’s a horrible coach).
