CRICKET CLUB
Since the revamp of Yorkshire Cricket in 2016 to create four ECB Premier
Leagues, Wakefield Thornes has enjoyed unprecedented success as a club. We
have won the ECB Yorkshire South Premier League title three years in a row.
On a truly memorable night in Abu
Dhabi in October 2016, at the end of a
truly memorable week (thanks to Mark
Arthur and YCCC for their perseverance
and commitment), we took the inaugural
Yorkshire Premier Cricket crown. In 2017
we came mightily close to defending
it, losing only to Hanging Heaton by 3
runs in the final (having been penalised 5
runs for a slow over rate) and in 2018 we
regained the title at Headingley beating
Great Ayton.
The success we’ve enjoyed has not
just been the preserve of the first team.
Last season the seconds had a league
and cup double and the previous year
the Under 19’s took the Yorkshire South
t20 title.
The success, of the club has come
as a surprise to many people. But the
foundations were laid over a fifteen year
period and have been founded on junior
development. So we’d slowly built to
that 2016 success. Rising from the third
