Skirlaugh FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORTYORKSHIRE 1 only our spectators can see the stars of the future but it also gives these youngsters a feeling of identity.” Challenges “Obviously, our biggest challenges are sponsorship and fund raising and making the club stable with a solid playing base. Worries are the Rugby Football League whom seem to be cutting the grass roots game back through funding and other aspects. With the professional bodies running reserve sides from next season it could well have a detrimental effect on our playing resources, as at present they can take players on license (was Dual Registration) and play them or return them to their amateur club at will. That at present only applies to the Hull and Wakefield sides, but next season they all will have reserve grades and they will be cherry picking the NCL and I feel this may somewhat devalue the competition.” Ambitions “There is a present plan to develop our facilities into an industrial site and with it that would provide us with brand new facilities, which is equally an exciting prospect and one full of eager anticipation which we hope will certainly happen in the next five years. This “I first got connected to the club through a very good friend of mine who used to play there who unfortunately passed away. For the past four years my boy has been playing in the youth set up at Skirlaugh Rugby Club. I think it’s a fantastic family friendly local club and as we are a local business, we love to help support such a great club. would give us far more opportunities to develop the club such as adding a ladies teams as we have no pitches or changing rooms at present for that concept. Playing wise our aims are to win promotion to the National Conference Premier Division and stay there, and achieve one thing missing from our rich and glorious history by beating a professional side in the Challenge Cup. We need to have a strong and vibrant reserve team (The Skirlaugh Bulls) which will make the club far stronger in playing terms, and finally it is important to keep the Youth Section running as it is, because that is the future of our club.” Concept Sliding Solutions and Revamp Kitchen and Bedroom Solutions have been sponsoring the club for the past three/four years now; we originally sponsored the 200 club then followed that up by sponsoring the under 8’s shirts, a couple of senior players, and we have an advertising board at the main site. From everyone here at Concept Sliding Solutions and Revamp Kitchen & Bedrooms Solutions we would like to wish the club all the best for the future and hope they keep up all the hard work being put in, it’s a fantastic family club and a happy environment to be around.” The youth section is thriving at the club; we recently went to Butlins to play in a Rhinos challenge and Skirlaugh had the largest representation for junior players out of all the clubs taking part, and that is definitely something that we are proud to be associated with. The developments in the club to gain new facilities Dave Giblin – Concept Sliding Solutions ltd are much needed, it would really benefit the club and can provide an opportunity for Skirlaugh to progress further. 24 Issue 01
