“I’m friends with a few people down at Ashington cricket
club, one of those is my cousin who is Steve Whitworth
who has been involved at the club most of his life and his
son Graham also plays for Ashington cricket Club.
The social aspect of the club is fantastic, and we really
enjoy going down to functions and a matchday on a
weekend, the atmosphere around the club at the minute
is brilliant. We have been a sponsor of the club for three
seasons and have various advertising boards around the
ground and sponsor the club strips. From everyone at
Wansbeck Carpets and floor we would like to wish the
club all the best for the upcoming season and look forward
to continuing to support our local club.”

Ashington Cricket Club alumni include
John Inchmore (Worcestershire), Ben
Harmison (Durham and Kent), Stephen
Harmison (Durham and England) and
Mark Wood (Durham and England).
John maintains contact with the club on
his visits to the North East, Ben is still
playing for us, Stephen is Club President
(and occasional 3rd teamer) and Mark
Wood is a familiar face at the club when
playing commitments allow and has
been coaching our senior players over
the Winter.
We are very much a club rooted
in the community. Our facilities are
used by various groups, ranging from
local businesses and health service
organisations to line dancers. We have
close links with local businesses and
Ashington Town Council, who are great
supporters of the club. As mentioned
previously, we engage with local
schools to encourage participation in
junior cricket. The majority of our senior
players are from the local area and there
is even a local Wetherspoons named
after one of our previous players (The
“Rohan Kanhai”)!
As ever, the greatest challenge facing
the club is matching funding to our
development plans. Hopefully we will
be able to complete some improvements
this year. On the playing side, we need to

to develop our home grown talent and

an exciting year.
Beyond 2019, we will hope to
continue developing as we have been.
The Club’s Development Plan gives
us a framework of priorities to pursue
