Redcar Athletic FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORTNEMAG Redcar Athletic FOOTBALL CLUB Having won promotion from the Wearside League last season, Redcar Athletic FC has enjoyed a solid season in the Northern League. Sport NE Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Kevin Fryett to find out more about the good work they’ve been doing lately. He told us, “I have been involved with the club for twenty- three years now; I took my son down as a seven year old to join the Under 8 team, the coach left so I agreed to temporarily take charge and I ended up coaching the team right through to Under 18’s Football! In the meantime, about a year after I had joined the Club Secretary resigned so I agreed to take on that role temporarily and I am still doing it now!” “The most challenging aspect of the role is finance, continually worrying about covering the day to day expenditure and always searching for grants, funding or sponsorship to continue to develop the club. It is very frustrating knowing that we could do so much more with a bit more financial help. “The most rewarding aspects are watching everybody participating in football, watching teams and players develop, enjoying teams doing well and winning. We have twenty- two teams at the club and when you go down to the club on a Saturday or Sunday and the place is bouncing I always take a minute to think this is what it is all about. “On a more personal note, I get a lot of satisfaction out of being involved with the Senior Team, the challenge of developing the Team to compete at higher levels and ensuring that the ground meets the necessary criteria are challenges but ones that I thrive on. “Everybody is on a high at the club at the moment, the whole club appears to be on an upwards curve after a few difficult years. Last season the Senior Team gained promotion to the Northern League, the 1st time Redcar has had a team at that level for nearly 100 years, and all of our Junior sides are having great seasons. “The future with the youngsters looks really bright and the place is bouncing at the moment. The town and people of Redcar have got behind us and we are currently 3rd in the average attendance table in the Northern League 2nd Division; we have added some more sponsors and we continue to raise the profile of Redcar. “I first got involved with the club when I provided them with some hedging and plants for the club; we have been a sponsor of Redcar Athletic Football Club for a couple of years now. Unfortunately, I had to stop playing football after I snapped my cruciate ligament. An injury that has had me on crutches many years later. From everyone at Longbeck Nurseries we would like to wish the club all the luck for the rest of the season and hope all the lads enjoy it and look forward to seeing the club grow.” Plants | Pots | Sheds| Sundries | Star Bud Tea Rooms T: 01642 494103 W: www.longbecknurseries.co.uk A: Longbeck Road, Marske by the Sea, North Yorkshire, TS11 8LB 26 Issue 01 Lee Burke, Longbeck Nurseries
