At the end of the two years, they travel to USA to take part in two tournaments in Milwaukee and Chicago and included a full access guided tour of the University of Notre Dame to see the sporting facilities in this world class University. Our squad last year was delighted to return to Consett as champions of the Great Lakes 7’s. The route from hard work into seeing what that hard work can provide gives a true sense of the reason we do what we do, and takes the young people into the adult game with a real sense of self – alongside an unforgettable experience. Our club is very mindful of the place we have in the community. Everybody has choices to make with their busy “Mountsett Garage are in our first year of sponsorship with Consett Rugby Club and currently sponsor the players shirts. We also have our logo on boards around the ground as well as in the matchday programme. My grandfather helped build their first Clubhouse many years ago, he and his two brothers all played for Consett so we have a long family connection with the club. I have always been a fan and player of rugby myself. Consett are a local team to us and we get down when we can to support the lads and it’s great to be involved in a club that supports the local community as much as Consett RC does. From all of us here at Mountsett Garage we would like to wish everyone associated with Consett Rugby Club all the very best and keep up the great community work.” Will Johnson lives, and we are delighted that so many choose the club to spend their free time. Off the field, we continue to consolidate our credentials as a key community club in the town. Early last year, we were shaken by the suicide of one of our players. As a club, this experience affected people in many different ways – one of the outcomes is that we now provide free space for an NHS Health and Resilience Nurse to give anyone with concerns a route into obtaining free advice and counselling. On Boxing Day each year, we have a charity inter-club match, followed by an unwanted Christmas present auction in the club. This hugely anticipated occasion not only provides the bragging rights until the following Christmas, but generally raises c£2k for our chosen charity, Calm being our obvious choice last year, but Doddie Weir’s foundation the year before. With the club being in sight of the Consett Cenotaph, in 2017, a group of parents began a year long project to have the clubhouse decorated for the Centenary commemorations last Family run business with main dealer background Over 40 years experience in motor retail Our Services • MOT & Vehicle Servicing • Quality Used Car sales, • Car Finance • Vehicle Sourcing, • We buy cars for cash Proud sponsors of Consett RFC T: 01207 570333 W: www.mountsett-garage.co.uk Ewehurst Road, Dipton, County Durham, DH9 9JP www.sportip.biz 17
