Invest in young people, it lasts a lifetime
The Durham Association of boys and girls clubs has been in existence since 1933 and provides a range of
primarily sporting activities for boys and girls from 8-18 years old. Sport in Profile Magazine recently caught
up with Simon Healey to find out more about some of the superb work that they’ve been doing lately.
About Us
“We’re
a
charity
with
approximately 70 clubs that
are affiliated to us. Primarily we
offer county events and organise
the county programme. The
uniqueness for us is that we have
access to regional, national and
international events so it provides
young people with fantastic
opportunities to compete at a
high level. We have achieved
some fantastic successes in recent
times and are recognised as the
best county in the country at the
moment.”
Activities
“Out of the 65-70 clubs
affiliated with us we have a solid
programme of various sports
including 5-a-side competitions,
county table tennis competitions
and the hundred mile canoe
contest among other things.
We’re always looking to add new
activities and this year we were
able to include the Young Clay
Pigeon Shoot with around 20
young people getting the chance
to take a part. So as you can see it
is quite a range of results that we
are able to lay on!
