Edinburgh Capitals
ICE HOCKEY CLUB
Ice Hockey has been played in
Edinburgh since 1945, giving the city
a rich history in the sport. Their team
started life as the Edinburgh Royals
before becoming the Racers in the mid-
1990s. The Edinburgh Capitals then
came into existence in 1998 and have
gone on to put together a proud history
since then.
They spent seven years competing in the
British National League before making
the step up to the Elite Ice Hockey
League ahead of the 2005/06 season.
There have been many memorable
matches played since then and the
current group of players will be keen
to add to their previous successes. They
play their home fixtures at the Murray
Field Ice Rink on Riverside Crescent and
strive for continuous improvement.
It would be fair to say that they did not
perhaps enjoy the campaign that they
would have liked last time around as
they compiled a record of thirteen total
wins and eighteen defeats in regulation
as well as one shoot out loss. This saw
them finish bottom of the Conference
with 27 points on the board.
There were some positives to take from
the campaign however and one of
these was their strong home record as
they won nearly half of their matches.
Winning matches at home should help
the team to continue to improve and
will also make sure that their supporters
enjoy coming to watch them which has
the potential to provide them with a
valuable source of additional revenue.
The club has been working hard during
the off-season to make sure that they
are able to improve this time around.
As long as they are able to retain
their current group of players and
can perhaps make one or two quality
additions they should be in with a good
chance of doing just that.
They were recently able to announce
that Canadian forward Dillon Lawrence
would be returning to the club after a
successful trial period. Lawrence comes
in to add depth to the forward line and
will bring an additional physical
element to the side.
Speaking to their official
website, www.edcapitals.
com, Lawrence said,
“I had a really good
experience
there
during my trial
period.
The
team and the
fans were very
welcoming. I felt
better each game
that I played,
and know I
will continue to
improve as the
season progresses.
It’s a great group of
guys and I’m excited
to get back and see
what we can accomplish.”
The club put on record that
they wish to welcome him to the
club and hope to have him in the action
as soon as possible.
Whilst Edinburgh Capitals did not
perhaps win as many matches as they
would have liked last season, this should
not take away from the good work that
has been getting carried out at the club
in recent times. Hopefully they will be
able to continue to play at the top level
for many years to come and everyone at
Sport in Profile Magazine wishes them
the best of luck.
