ortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club is the 15th Oldest Recorded
Club in the World having first been established in 1793. Sport in
Profile Magazine recently caught up with their Club Secretary Mike
MacDonald to find out how the club is currently getting along.
Involvement The Role
He told us, “I first started working for Fortrose & Rosemarkie
Golf Links during the month of May 2003. I have been a
member here since my junior days so I have always had an
affiliation with the Club as I lived close by.
My parents used to take me and my brother down to golf
when possible so it led on from there really. I have been the
Junior Club Champion three times, the Men’s Champion eight
times and I have also won the County Championship and the
District Championship representing the Club.” “The most challenging aspects over the last few years have
been with membership retention. There are many more golfers
who play golf these days but are not members of clubs so every
effort goes in to keeping the members happy and to ensure
that they continue being members of the 15th Oldest Recorded
Club in the World (1793) for as long as possible.
When I first started here we had 700 members and this has
increased to nearly 1000 over the last few seasons. We are more
popular with visiting golfers from the UK, Europe and the
US than ever as they are playing a truly fantastic course and
they get true value for money. Since I started here in 2003, I
