training by both junior and senior
players. We have one of the most
attractive grounds in Hertfordshire
although it would be good if we could
get a bit more pace and bounce into the
first team square.
“This year the first team are currently
4th in Division 1 and through to the
semi-finals of the 50 over Cup. At the
end of the month we are again hosting
the Lashings All-Stars team who will be
playing Broxbourne on the 25th August
and the House of Commons team on the
27th.
“Whilst the general mood remains
positive, we have struggled this year
with availability and a prime challenge
for the future is to attract more senior
members as well as ensuring that we
develop our many promising junior
members so that they can progress into
adult cricket.
“The most challenging aspects of my
job are team selection and keeping
everybody happy when we are
sometimes struggling to field three
Saturday sides. The ever increasing
admin which is required is also a strain.
“The decline of Sunday cricket is also an
issue as is fund raising and maintaining
the financial viability of the Club. The
Lashings matches will help considerably
in both raising funds and the profile of
the club.
“Looking forward over the next five
years it is important that we attract
new members and of course retain our
existing members.”
