Broxbourne
CRICKET CLUB
Broxbourne CC is a fine example of a club playing an important role
in their community by providing people with a chance to enjoy the
game in a safe and enjoyable environment. Sport in Profile Magazine
recently caught up with their Chairman Richard Grove to find out
more about the good work that they’ve been doing lately.
He told us, “I have been involved at
Broxbourne since I was about
eight when I first started
watching the cricket
there and playing
with my brother
in the summer
holidays. As I
am now 63 you
can see that
I have been
involved for a
few years!”
“We lived close
to the ground
so it was a great
place to spend time
playing and watching
cricket. I have lived in
the area ever since and have
carried out all number of roles over
28 Issue 15
the years including scoring for the first
team, umpiring and playing
for around 30 years. I
have captained the
second team, been
Chairman on three
occasions
and
was President
for four years.
I am currently
doing
my
third stint as
Chairman.

forms
part
of
the
Broxbourne
Sports Club which is
a community club with
cricket, hockey, squash and
tennis sections as well as affiliated
Running and Triathlon clubs. Cricket is
the oldest section having been formed in
1848. We have been based at our current
ground at Mill Lane for most of that time.
We have excellent facilities with two
cricket squares and a superb clubhouse.
The Sports Club also has eleven tennis
courts, five squash courts and an all-
weather astroturf hockey pitch.
“We run three sides in the Saracens
Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League
with the first team in Division 1. We also
have a thriving junior section with over
120 members aged from 6 to 15. Many
of our first team players have come
up through the junior teams. Youth
development is extremely important to
the club and we run a number of sides
from Under 9 through to Under 15.
