Broxbourne FOLLOW US ONLINE twitter.com/sportinprofile Broxbourne CRICKET CLUB Broxbourne CC is a fine example of a club playing an important role in their community by providing people with a chance to enjoy the game in a safe and enjoyable environment. Sport in Profile Magazine recently caught up with their Chairman Richard Grove to find out more about the good work that they’ve been doing lately. He told us, “I have been involved at Broxbourne since I was about eight when I first started watching the cricket there and playing with my brother in the summer holidays. As I am now 63 you can see that I have been involved for a few years!” “We lived close to the ground so it was a great place to spend time playing and watching cricket. I have lived in the area ever since and have carried out all number of roles over 28 Issue 15 the years including scoring for the first team, umpiring and playing for around 30 years. I have captained the second team, been Chairman on three occasions and was President for four years. I am currently doing my third stint as Chairman. “Broxbourne Cricket Club forms part of the Broxbourne Sports Club which is a community club with cricket, hockey, squash and tennis sections as well as affiliated Running and Triathlon clubs. Cricket is the oldest section having been formed in 1848. We have been based at our current ground at Mill Lane for most of that time. We have excellent facilities with two cricket squares and a superb clubhouse. The Sports Club also has eleven tennis courts, five squash courts and an all- weather astroturf hockey pitch. “We run three sides in the Saracens Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League with the first team in Division 1. We also have a thriving junior section with over 120 members aged from 6 to 15. Many of our first team players have come up through the junior teams. Youth development is extremely important to the club and we run a number of sides from Under 9 through to Under 15. “We have excellent facilities which were added to two years ago with the
