With just five league matches to play, the 1st XI isleading the Premier Division of the Devon Cricket League by thirty five points. Our 2nd XI is second in their respective League and both our 3rd & 4th XIs are enjoying a successful season in their respective leagues. The idea to create a 3rd XI a few seasons ago and latterly a 4th XI has proved to be a major success. This has enabled our junior players to play senior cricket on Saturdays and Sundays, thus improving their techniques and also involving them in longer games of cricket. In doing this we are now seeing the emergence of many of our junior players into the 2nd XI of which three are regularly turning out for the 1st XI. The Club is pleased that the County Club has noticed the ability of some of our players and two have been chosen to represent the County at Minor Counties 24 Issue 15 level and three are regularly selected for the Devon Lions, the pathway to the full County side. Our young Sunday League team is now performing in the top tier of the South Devon League after winning promotion last season. Understandably, the standard is a little higher and the team has found it more difficult this season. Our Ladies & Junior Teams are performing well in their respective leagues. Our Junior section is much envied and again this has been built up over a number of years by different members overseeing this important section of the Club. At present we enter ten junior teams into the South Devon Youth League at all age levels from Under 10 to Under 15, plus Under 17 and Under 19s teams in different competitions both local and nationally. The Ladies team has a good mixture with young girls and ladies. This season, two new activities have been introduced ‘All Stars Cricket’ and ‘Wine & Wickets’ both English Cricket Board (ECB) initiatives to encourage more youngsters and ladies to participate.
