We have been finalists in major junior national finals and many of our youngsters go on to play for our First Team at ECB Level and some have progressed into Minor County and the professional ranks. We have fielded ECB Premier League teams made up completely of players who’ve made their way through our clubs youth policy.” Community “We predominantly draw on members from the local area and have a good relationship with our neighbours. Many of which are ‘Taverner’ members of the club and you often see them pop in for a swift half during play.” Facilities “We have great facilities at the club including artificial surfaces in our nets and a strip in the middle. We have some top quality covers for our square and our scoreboard is fully electronic and controlled via a wireless signal from the clubhouse. Our next big project will be to invest in some grass practice wickets so we can practice on surfaces more akin to what we face at the weekend.” Challenges/Ambitions “There seems to be a general decline in participation in the longer forms of the game. Although Saturday cricket is booming Sunday cricket seems to be in serious trouble. I believe some innovative thinking is the only way to save it long term and help it overcome the general malaise it finds itself in. Our ambition is to carry on giving our younger playing members the opportunity to play at as higher level of cricket as they are capable. It is also important to continue upgrading our facilities, upskilling our coaches and continuing to do what we are doing now, which is having lots of fun!” “Our ambition is to carry on giving our younger playing members the opportunity to play at as higher level of cricket as they are capable.” www.sportip.biz 17
