last year ’ s proceeds we purchased two mobile nets that overnight doubled the clubs net capacity in addition to creating additional grass practise facilities . In addition , we continue to raise money for the Cricket Section through sponsorship from local businesses , round perimeter advertising and by running Junior coaching camps during the summer holidays .”
Challenges
“ Our biggest challenges are retention , adaptation and competition . As Sport England continues to report a fall in sport participation in the UK , retention of members is the best recruitment policy one can have . When I look at the turnover at our Club , it is considerable , especially in the 15-20 year old age
group . If we could have retained 1 in 4 of those who have played in the last five years but no longer do so , we could comfortably be running a 5th XI . There are many reasons as to why this is but at a Club level I think we need to adapt to the needs of the members and understand what is required . If we don ’ t start to seriously consider morning starts , shorter games , Sunday T20 Leagues and Sunday League Cricket we will be in real trouble . The game of Cricket is today competing for peoples ’ time like it has never done before . We might just need to rip the rule book up and start again .”
Ambitions
“ Our ambition is to continue to drive growth through the Junior Section and to introduce a Junior Academy for ages
5-18 . We want to regain Premier League status and win both 1st and 2nd XI titles with home grown talent . It is also important to create a structure and a culture that ensures Bromley CC reaches its 300 years Anniversary in 2120 . We also need to raise sufficient money to fund the following projects : - In partnership with a local school , fully fund an indoor nets facility that would be incorporated within that school ’ s gym facility . - In partnership with a local school , fund or partly fund an artificial pitch - Install pop up sprinklers on the outfield at Plaistow Lane to make full use of the Bore Hole and ensure a first class outfield throughout the season , whatever the weather .”
