Good Luck Hessle Cricket Club and Hessle Rugby Union Club for 2017 / 2018 seasons from Robin and Carl Goodfellow
Hessle our proud heritage as a club and our service to the Hessle community needs nurturing if we are to continue into the future . We have ambitions to keep going for many years to come by investing time , energy and finances into developing our Junior section and overall cricket facilities to be one of the best in the Yorkshire area .”
Plans were put in place to improve revenue streams which included successful fund raising events such as an annual golf day , a successful T20 challenge match and a veterans / ex-players match . Grants were also obtained from the ECB for vital ground equipment and from the local council for Junior playing equipment .
The club went on a drive to improve sponsorship too and secured funds from many local businesses to sponsor match balls , stumps or display signage on their scorebox . This year Hessle ’ s key sponsors are WTS waste transfer services , who sponsor the Junior Cricket activity and Urban 44 , THE local coffee lounge . The club are extremely grateful and thankful for their support this year and would also like to thank all the businesses , local authorities and the ECB who have backed them over the last few years .
The funds generated were quickly invested in the two core aims . From an equipment perspective , some of the things that have been put in place are roll-on covers , a water hog , an all – weather pitch , an all-weather practice net , a scarifier and an outfield cutter . Money was also invested in training to improve the expertise of the volunteer ground staff who are all now ECB qualified and through their hard work are producing better pitches year on year .
The development of the junior section needed a lot of time and money investing after lapsing in recent years . Volunteer coaches were recruited from the playing staff and investment was made in training them to the ECB standard required . Money was invested in new junior kit and equipment .

Good Luck Hessle Cricket Club and Hessle Rugby Union Club for 2017 / 2018 seasons from Robin and Carl Goodfellow

In 2015 , free Sunday morning coaching sessions were set up to encourage as many young people to take up the game in the 9 to 15 age group . Initial numbers were low but momentum built and continued into the summer of 2016 . This year the U11s and U13s teams have played in winter and summer leagues to gain competitive experience . All Star cricket sessions , an ECB initiative launched this year , are also being run to encourage children in the 5 to 8-year group . The hard work and dedication of the club coaches has been amazing in turning the situation around . The club are proud that last Sunday morning saw upwards of 70 kids playing cricket in some form or other , whilst in the afternoon , two 14-year-old players graduated through to play their first games for the senior 3rd team .
The future looks bright for Hessle but there are still challenges ahead over the next few years . These challenges are like most cricket clubs – retaining players at both senior and junior level , inspiring new people to get involved with cricket , keeping engaged with the local community and encouraging the governing bodies to look at the format of our game to make it attractive and enjoyable for people to play . All this and the challenge of keeping up the fund-raising activities to maintain momentum and standards .
Hessle has a plan and relishes the challenges to come . It has ambitions to develop its infrastructure further with investment in new pitch mowers , electronic scoreboards and maybe a grandstand . It will continue its fine work and investment in its junior set up and look to the local community for its support . And it will definitely have a passion for cricket ! If you or your family have the same passion for playing or watching cricket , Hessle CC would love to see you . Website – hesslecricketclub . co . uk Facebook & Twitter
