“Youth development is very important to us. We have nearly
100 colts receiving professional coaching for most of the season
and then playing different age groups. Retaining youth players is
a problem affecting all clubs. When players go to University this is
when some of them will be lost forever.
Not everyone is suited to continue to play after University.
Obviously there are many other forms of entertainment out there
and players do disappear. The club is still very local so we always
hope that there is a special bond between players and the village.
A good percentage do come back.”
Commercial
“We have a fund raising section which is always on the lookout
for Sponsorship and donations from local businesses and people.
We take this very seriously. Naturally we would not be in the
position we are in today if it wasn’t for financial donations. The
clubhouse is also always available to be rented out to anyone in
the village and we welcome enquiries.”
Challenges/Ambitions
“We need to maximise our commercial potential, retain our
best players, always be on the lookout to attract new players and
keep solvent. Our excellent committee will enable this to happen.
Our ambition is for the first X1 to end up in the Premier League of
the Thames Valley League, continue to be awarded Berkshire CC
county matches and to remain a local club.”
