Leeds Modernians FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORT_IP Leeds Modernians Sports and Social CLUB L eeds Modernians is a multi sports club and also a thriving social club in the north of Leeds. In 2015 we changed our name from The Old Modernians Association to more represent the foundation of the club and to create a new image going forward. We still encompass the tradition of promoting Rugby, Cricket and Football in the community and are proud of our history and our promotion of good values both in sport and socially. Personally, I have been connected with the club for around thirty years and was first attracted when my son wanted to try out cricket. I took him up to the club and from that point I was very quickly involved and included. Over the years I have held a number of positions leading to becoming Chairman in July 2014 for most of the time it has been enjoyable and satisfying. This is a great club to be involved in but I am only a part of a driven team intending to continue the traditions and success here 6 Issue 12 at Leeds Mods. As a club we have had a couple of tricky years but are now seeing the benefits of working as a team – a thing that I take great satisfaction from with 2015 seeing good progress. On the sporting side we are as a club in a transitional position, Cricket having reestablished a junior section now running teams from under 9s up to under 17s. The Senior teams entered the Aire Wharfe League in 2015. A positive future is the ambition with hopes of being in Division One in 5 years (currently in Division Three). Football has in recent years moved two teams into the West Yorkshire League and are finding their feet at this higher level. There are also two teams in the Yorkshire Amateur League. As with Cricket, a junior section is being formed starting with an under 8s team, although this is more recent we can already see the positives and the hopes are for good controlled expansion. Our Rugby Union teams are all working well together with the first team in Yorkshire Division 3 and the second and third teams playing competitively in their respective merit leagues as with the other sports they are very active socially within the club as a whole, showing tremendous spirit and commitment. Leeds Modernians is also home to The Leeds Akkies Rugby League who play during the summer. They are an integral part of the club and like the other sports form part of the total that is Leeds Modernians. It is vital for the future of the club that the young players feel part of the club and in both cricket and football the involvement of senior members with the juniors is a vital aspect creating a bond that will see the senior sports also develop. Leeds Mods is the place to be especially on match days when it is full of sporting and social members with great banter and togetherness readily on show. 2015 saw the club raising its profile within the local community using Social Activities to bring in new members not just for playing sport but to share in the
