Cricket CLUB
G
errards Cross CC was
first established in 1882,
although they were
originally known as Gerrards
Cross United Cricket Club
before a name change
shortly after. They play
their home games
on Dukes Lane in
Bucks and are led
by
Chairman
C h a r l e s
Hunt who is
supported
by Secretary
S t e v e
Rimmer.
T h e
club as a
whole
is
part of the
Gerrards
C r o s s
Sports Club
which
is
made
up
of
Cricket,
Hockey
and
Tennis. They did
originally
play
on Gerrards Cross
Common
opposite
‘The Bull Hotel’ and a
Centenary match was held
at the same venue in 1982.
In their recent history the
club have achieved a considerable
amount of success, winning the Thames
44 Issue 12
Valley League and claimed promotion
to the Home Counties Premier Cricket
League (HCPCL) in 2002. They have
twice finished runners up in this
competition since then in 2006
and 2007.
At the present time
the club has four adult
sides in place, three
of which play on a
Saturday and one
on a Sunday. A
major benefit
of
having
more
than
one
team
is that it
allows the
club
to
give young
players
assistance in
making the
transition
into
the
senior game.
This is because
they can give
them a chance
to play even if
they are not yet
considered ready for
first team action. One of
their most famous players
is Andrew Strauss, the former
England Captain.
Gerrards Cross is a great example
of a well-run, family club and they pride
