All memorable occasions, but surely the most outstanding was the clubs first Senior County Camogie Championship in 2007, a thrilling match against reigning champions. Bros. Pearse led for most of the match, only to fall behind to a goal in the last five minutes, the determination of the girls that night was so strong that they fought back to score a goal with the last stroke of the game, to take the championship 2-09 to 1-10, a night that will never be forgotten. Going forward, the club is very seriously looking for its own premises, joining together with the men’s hurling and football club to be all housed under the one roof; the only club in London to have all four codes under the one banner. We have players from all parts of Ireland playing for us and have had many other nationalities wearing our colours, from locally born girls to Australia, South African, Swedish, Spanish and French to mention but a few. The club enjoys a great social scene, meeting up to watch Gaelic and Rugby matches in The Raven on Goldhawk Road, next to Stamford Brook station and organising many other events, such as quiz and race nights, raffles and Christmas outings. 20 Issue 12 We are grateful to our many sponsors, especially Clonakilty Black Pudding who this year celebrate 5 years as our major sponsor and also Premier Sports TV and Debbie Smyth of Remax Estate agents, The Raven and Your Irish Shop as well as the many others who so generously contribute to our fund raising ventures. This year we have added Engage Education as a major sponsor and we will launch this with an event in London at the end of January. As a club we are always looking for new players, mentors and supporters. We welcome everybody to our training sessions and games, we train on the beautiful green fields of Richmond’s Old Deer Park and also in Greenford, where most of our matches are played. We can be contacted, on our email fathermurphys-gaaclub-london@hotmail. com or through our facebook and twitter pages. Our new website is shortly to be launched on www. frmurphys.co.uk , you can also contact us through Club Chairman, Larry O’Leary on [email protected] or 07944178879. We hope you will look us up.
