They were founded in 1987 and have a vibrant history as a club winning several major honours in their time. I have been involved, in one way or another, with the club since 2005 when I worked within the team as an Assistant Equipment Manager on match nights and during training sessions. I moved into match night DVD commentary as well as production and sales of the DVD’s before taking over the Official Website and Social Media back in 2006. I have been responsible for web and social media content for the club ever since and in 2007 also took over as Match Night Programme Editor. My official title is now Chief Media Officer and it still encompasses the web content, social media content and match night Im a 12 Issue 12 programme editing and compiling but also now includes general club PR as well. The most challenging aspects of this expanded role can be the constantly changing dynamic of the media which we choose to use in the modern era. By this I mean things such as Twitter, Facebook and other social media as well as fast developing websites but the need to also make sure that written print media is still used as and when required. Things have vastly changed since I first took on these roles a number of years ago and the introduction of social media has led to instant feedback being given and the need for quick responses at all times of day and night to keep up with the demands of the modern audience. However the role is deeply rewarding as I get to support the club that I love and follow by keeping the fans and media up to date with all the latest happenings within the club and promote the club at the same time. The recent history of the club has been a little up and down of late but despite some of the problems we are definitely upbeat and facing all the challenges head on in an effort to come out at the other side stronger and wiser. To quote our Head Coach only a couple of weeks ago, “Tough times don’t last but tough people do!” Despite some tough times at present, the 2015 season got off to a good start for the club, both on and off the ice. Recently we have run into some financial issues due to postponed games and other off ice issues but the messages of support, the offers of help and the ideas as to how to enhance our match night fund raising from our fan base show just how well thought of this club is.
