cheddar lawn tennis club FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORT_IP Cheddar lawn tennis club Cheddar Lawn Tennis Club is a friendly establishment that provides their local community with superb facilities and excellent opportunities to enjoy the game. Chair, Jennie Colton took the time to tell us more about the fantastic work they carry out. She told us, “I’ve been a member of Cheddar Tennis Club for over thirty years. I was Secretary for twenty five years and have been Chairman for the last two. Cheddar Tennis Club has always prided itself on being a friendly, welcoming and inclusive club with members whose ages range from four years to seventy four years old. “We have four, recently repainted, all-weather c o u r t s with new upgraded floodlighting and we were the first tennis club in the south west to attain Clubmark accreditation (now called Tennismark). We run four ladies and three men’s teams in the North Somerset Tennis Summer League and our ladies A team have won Division 1 for the last two 32 Issue 11 years. We also have three winter league teams and one Veterans team. “As well as league tennis there is plenty of social tennis to be had, with men’s nights on Mondays, ladies nights on Tuesdays and general club play on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. We’ve recently introduced a once a month ‘tennis with supper’ evening and this has proved great fun, with members tucking into fish and chips or pizza after a good workout on court. “We have an annual barbecue, open to all members young and old and their friends and families and are planning a dinner and disco in October. The Committee feels that social events help to bring the membership closer together and increase club spirit. “We have taken on a new dynamic professional coach this year, who has done a great deal to invigorate the junior side of the club, as well as bring fresh ideas to the club in general. He runs the junior coaching programme and is bringing on several of our older
