Washington Washington FC W ashington FC, in its current form, was established in 1947 and has gone on to put together a history of which they have every right to be proud since then. They joined the Wearside League in 1968 and one of their best performances in the FA Vase came in the 1977-78 season when they reached the 3rd round. They had a season to remember in the 2014/15 campaign as they gained promotion from the 2nd Division by finishing in 2nd place. They secured their promotion by putting together a run of seven straight wins towards the end of the season. This success sees them competing in the 1st Division of the Northern League and they play their home games at the Nissan Sports and Leisure Complex on Washington Road in Sunderland. They are led by Chairman Derek Armstrong who is supported by Secretary Barry Spendley trophies Specialists in glassware, presentation plaques, engraved company and club logos Visit us online or at our showroom at 14 - 16 Swan Road Swan Industrial Estate Washington Tyne & Wear NE38 8JJ and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance. The team has made a strong start in their new surroundings this season, putting together a record of seven wins, four draws and three defeats from their fourteen matches. This sees them sitting in the top half of the table with twenty five points on the board. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to go on and put together a successful campaign. So long as they are able to keep their current group of players together they should have a good chance of pushing on up the league. One of the highlights of the team’s performances this season has been the attacking brand of football that they have been able to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have racked up 32 goals in the league alone at a rate of more than two per match. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind them in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide the club with a valuable source of additional revenue. Washington FC has been making tremendous progress in recent times and is a fine example of what can be achieved with a strong set up behind the scenes. They appear to be a club with everything in place to enable them to look forward to a bright and successful future and Sport in Profile Magazine wishes them the best of luck.
