he Rio de Janeiro Olympics
will be held from the 5th
to the 21st of August 2016
and Team GB’s preparations are well
underway as they look to ensure that
they can build on one of their most
successful games ever last time around.
The Games of 2012 saw London
becoming the first city to host the games
on three separate occasions in 1908, 1948
and 2012. Great Britain is also one of only
five countries to have been represented
at each of the summer Olympic Games
since 1896. They also accompany France
and Switzerland in being present at all
Olympic Winter Games since 1924.

The British Olympic Association
(BOA) is the National Olympic Committee
(NOC) for Great Britain and Northern
Ireland. It was first formed in 1905 in the
House of Commons and was initially
made up of seven National Governing
Body (NGB) members from fencing, lifesaving, cycling, skating, rowing, athletics,
rugby, football and archery.
The BOA is one of 205 NOCs that is
recognised by the International Olympic
Committee (IOC) and is focused upon
leading the promotion of Olympism in
accordance with the Olympic Charter.
The Charter lays out the philosophy, aims
and traditions of the Olympic Movement.
