lewes hockey club FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/SPORT_IP Lewes hockey club With the 11th century castle aloft in the distance, and the monastery ruins running along the touchline, Lewes Hockey Club has to be one of the most scenic locations in the sport. However with hot competition from local clubs and a difficult last season, Men’s Club Captain Josh Pewter explains more about building for the new season ahead. SiP: How long have you been involved and what first attracted you to the club? JP: I first joined Lewes when I was 12 years old, none of my family had ever played the sport, however when a coach came into my local secondary school to teach hockey, I was instantly hooked and joined my local club. After a brief spell away at Uni I came back and took on the role as club captain for the men.   SiP: What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your role as Club Captain? JP: It can be a pretty thankless task at times! Admin tasks, selection and sponsorship can be time allencompassing on top of your full time job. I do thoroughly enjoy working on the overall blue-sky development of Lewes, with a view to returning the men’s 1s to National League and creating more future stars.   SiP: How’s the general mood down at the club at the moment? JP: Cautiously positive. I think preseason brings an air of optimism to most clubs and it’s no exception at Lewes. The men’s sides took a bit of a battering last season. Our 1st team stayed up by the skin of our teeth; however we were unable to save our 2nd and 3rd XI who were both relegated. It was a bitter blow at the time, however I’m positive both sides will bounce back. The ladies fared much better with a top half finish for the 1’s that can definitely be built on this year. SiP: What are your plans for the rest of 2015? JP: The ladie’s 1st team and Men’s 2nd team gaining promotion has to be our key o &
