Leighton Town
launched. The club has been working hard to progress in recent
months with new sponsors, improvements to their ground and
facilities and the appointment of a new football management
team. The Supporters Association will look to support the work
being done by the club.
As well as this Leighton Town are also looking to re-establish
a youth and reserve set-up and with so much going on at the club
Sport in Profile was keen to find out more. With this in mind we
recently caught up with their Chairman Iain McGregor.
He told us, “I’ve been involved with the club since 1989
having first got involved because I love football and this has led
to a love for the club. I would say the general mood at the club
at the moment is fabulous. We have a new Manager, a new main
Sponsor and lots of optimism for the future.
“Our aim this season is to finish above mid-table and have
some success in the FA Cup, Trophy and County Cup. We want
to stay in the FA Cup for as long as possible; we have yet to make
the 1st round proper having got close twice in our history - who
knows what’s round the corner .
“A good cup run is always important for a club as it can
provide good publicity and help to raise the profile of our Club
locally as well as having the potential to give us some much needed
prize money. The FA Cup is particularly special, knowing that we
are in the same competition as sides such as Spurs, Chelsea, Man
United and Liverpool etc.
“The tie against Cogenhoe was always going to be a difficult
one as they are a good club with a strong side. Naturally we were
disappointed not to come out on top but will have to focus now
on continuing to build a side and club that the people of Leighton
Buzzard can be proud of. Hopefully we’ll put ourselves in with a
chance of gaining promotion and winning local leagues and cups
over the coming years.”
It is clearly an exciting time to be involved with Leighton
Town at the moment and hopefully they will be able to keep
up the good work for many years to come. It will certainly be
interesting to see how they are able to progress and everyone at
Sport in Profile Magazine would like to take this opportunity to
wish them the best of luck for the future.
